Does it require faith?

What are you doing that requires faith?

Tonight, as I read another chapter in Francis Chan's Crazy Love, I encountered a question that required my immediate and complete attention to answer: "What are you doing right now, that requires faith?" I grabbed my journal and began to examine all the responsibilities and assignments that composed my daily life. I am a wife, mother, Christian, blogger, graduate student, employee, friend, older sister, author, the list kept adding up, but what on this list required total dependence on who God is and promises to be?

I had to come and present the same question to my readers. Social media encourages a lot of career and financial risk taking, like becoming an entrepreneur and leaving the perceived security of traditional employment, but I am not speaking about those things. You see, if everything on our to-do lists can be done in our strength, with a little time management, with a little saving, with a little education, then it's not done by faith alone. An example of something done by faith you said? God telling you to sell your home and donate it to the church as a shelter, or God telling you to leave your life insurance money to the church or a non-profit organization and not your children. In my own personal life, an example is, God assigning me to write Broke Down Christians, despite my rebuttals that no one would buy it, and if it was free, no one would read it.

I have an actual list of faith tasks that I need to get through, some I know will benefit me, and others, strictly for the benefit of other people. If we say we are doing it for God, but it doesn't require faith, His Word says it doesn't please Him: Hebrews 11:6"And it is impossible to please God without faith."

I love the way the question was worded, what are you DOING, that requires faith. You see if faith without works is dead, then what are our works without faith? Do you have the faith to believe that God is sending you to school to get this degree so that you can teach, nurse, account, administer, advise, coach etc. to His honor and glory? Do you have faith that even though God tugs on your heart to sow your last $50 into someone's life, or your newly purchased clothes to a sister or brother in Christ, or a homeless person on the street, that it is for them to experience the love of Christ through you? Francis Chan pointed out that Noah was building the Ark for 120 years before the rain came; what assignments are you working on right now, that God gave you a while back and told you He would send the rain, send the audience, send the funding? For me, that's this blog, I have google analytics, I know what the readership is, and it requires faith to keep blogging about and for Jesus. Yet, I will prove faithful over this little, faith-ing my way through to God's promises about the works of my hands.

Beloved, whatever you are doing that requires faith, activate! Get out of the comfortable zone, I pray that God strip you of comfort and ignite you with Holy fire to do the hard things He is requiring of you in this season. Paul said your actions are evidence of your faith (James 2:18)

"But someone may say, “You [claim to] have faith and I have [good] works; show me your [alleged] faith without the works [if you can], and I will show you my faith by my works [that is, by what I do].”
